She never plays anything on her 3DS any more , so it will be nice to see her getting some use out of what is very likely to be the last handheld from Nintendo in my house. It's nice that Nintendo is going to mobile platforms as I think that's where the money is going to be down the road... @6ch6ris6 Every person i've spoken to that owns it loves it. Plenty of websites and critics have given it an 8. You may think its a stupid spinoff after all of your time playing it, but its made 40 million dollars in 12 days, and is well loved all over the world.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Review (3DS)
The BIG draw for me is the fact that one does not HAVE to play on a daily basis. It was said of the other Animal Crossing games that you could play for ten minutes a day and still enjoy it. So you could, but maintaining a good town and it's residents seldom took less than a daily 30 to 40 minutes. I used to be a fan of AC but this spin-off games are a clear indicator that Nintendo is just milking this franchise to death since they know how popular AC is. Instead of taking their time to make a huge robust AC New Leaf sequel for Wii U, they made a stupid board game that nobody asked for and it was created only to sell Amiibo.
@XCWarrior Its already one of nintendo's top selling games (1 million total sales in a matter of weeks!) and people have sunk over 200 hours into it....and it just came out. Also, the cards are 99 cents each, and arent even needed for the game, so.... Happy Home Designer received mixed reviews from critics, and has a score of 67% on Metacritic. Many reviewers praised the customization options, but criticized the lack of challenge, or felt the game was unrewarding.

Houses designed by the player in Happy Home Designer can be transferred to another Animal Crossing series spin-off, amiibo Festival, where they are displayed in the background of mini-games and the overworld. The town environment has also been improved in Happy Home Designer, featuring much more varied landscapes and layouts. The game is a spin-off to the main Animal Crossing series and doesn't feature the usual staples of Animal Crossing games, such as fishing or bug catching. Instead, the options for designing houses have been greatly increased, with outdoor furniture in particular having been expanded upon from New Leaf's public works projects.
The player can now select their skin tone during character creation; tanning is no longer the only way to achieve darker skin tones. As of now, features to the player can be adjusted through the upstairs floor of Nook's Homes. This site really does have some well written reviews. It's nice to have a reliable source for in-depth reviews that give more than just a yay or nay. I toyed with the idea of re-starting, but I love my original town and don't want to mess about building things up again.

Just look at the AC track in Mario Kart 8, it doesn't allow you to do anything but race, but that track really catches the "spirit" of animal crossing. The "spirit" of AC is not in it's freedom of play, but in it's structure, world, colours, attitude, dialog, movement, expressions, everything. This is an animal crossing game, it's just not more of the same. It's a specialized version of one large component in the larger scheme of AC. I am looking forward to this game, I am disappointed that it won't punish you for going against the grain. A little defeating when you realize this, but this game will thus be easier for children.
All of these unused villagers eventually appeared in New Leaf's Welcome amiibo update. Happy Home Designer topped the weekly charts again in its second week of sale, selling a further 181,377 units. Its lifetime total currently stands at 844,167 copies sold in Japan. Players can use amiibo on their New Nintendo 3DS systems, because it has a built-in NFC reader, which is necessary to use amiibo.
They even said they made Amiibo Festival simply because they wanted to have AC amiibos, another cash grab. I'll wait for New Leaf 2 or whatever the next main AC game is. Hey that's great 😇 I went back after playing the MK8 update and ended up downloading NL so I could start a new town. Plot resetting atm, nightmare, but only Margie and Paula to get moved in now.
I'm really looking forward to HHD - got the bundle pre-ordered, as well as a few packs of amiibo cards. Happy Home Designer took Animal Crossing, removed the entire gameplay from it, and then shoehorned a interior design simulator into that. The genre simpky doesn't fit with Animal Crossing, as Happy Home Designer has nothing except specific objectives for gameplay. You have no choices for yourself, and there are specific expectations from the game that the player is tasked with.

Designing rooms in new leaf was the thing I spent the most time on while playing and I was always upset I had to wait, or skip a day to get new things for my house from the shop. Feels like the game and cards just were made to bring Nintendo some easy cash. Give us a REAL animal crossing game and I will buy it.

The Villager amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series can be scanned for a bonus item. If you talk to Lottie directly after getting this item, she will make the amazed emotion and ask you how you got such a rare item and then ask if she could have it. When she first greets you in the morning the next day, she will tell you that Tom Nook said you could have the day off. Strangely enough, you can still accept home design requests. Despite many staple features of the Animal Crossing series being missing, character customization remains in Happy Home Designer with some differences from New Leaf and other previous entries.
Once the amiibo phone is unlocked (after a few in-game days), the player can use amiibo cards to contact and decorate for specific characters that might not otherwise appear in-game. Using the phone to scan a Villager amiibo will unlock a golden statue of the generic Super Smash Bros. Series one amiibo cards consists of 100 cards, the first 17 are Special characters, and the rest are normal villagers, it has been released in Japan and will launch in other regions along side the game. Series two amiibo cards has been announced for release in mid October for Japan, it will consist of another 100 cards with the first 17 ( ) of Special characters and the rest are normal villagers, the same as before.
